Dive Into Summer: Weeki Wachee Scalloping Adventures
From the Gulf to your table—dive into the best scalloping grounds in Weeki Wachee.

What is Scalloping?
If you have never been, scalloping on the Florida Nature Coast is best described as a giant, underwater Easter egg hunt! Every summer, Weeki Wachee Fish Company takes you to the shallow grass flats of the Gulf, which come alive with Bay Scallops, and catching them is an absolute blast for all ages.
The water is crystal clear, warm, and typically only 2 to 6 feet deep. Armed with a snorkel, mask, and a mesh bag, you simply float along the surface of the water looking down into the seagrass. Once you spot the glowing blue eyes of a scallop peeking out, you take a quick breath, dive down, and scoop it up by hand! It requires no previous experience and is incredibly easy to learn. It is the perfect, relaxing way to spend a summer day cooling off in the water, enjoying the local marine life, and gathering a delicious, fresh-caught seafood dinner.

When is the Florida scalloping season in Weeki Wachee?
Scalloping season on the Florida Nature Coast typically runs through the late summer months, generally from July through September. Because this is our most popular family activity, dates book up incredibly fast! If you’re visiting outside of these months or want to double your time on the water, our world-class fishing charters are available year-round to target Redfish, Trout, and Snook.
Do we need to bring our own snorkeling gear for the trip?
You don't need to worry about bringing any gear! We provide all the necessary, high-quality masks, snorkels, fins, and mesh collection bags you need for a successful hunt. Just bring your swimsuit and a towel, and you are good to go.
If you're looking for a different kind of gear and adventure, we also provide all rods and tackle for our fishing charters.
Do I need a special license to go scalloping in Florida?
Nope! Just like our inshore fishing charters, your Florida saltwater fishing and scalloping license is completely covered by the boat for the entire day.
Is scalloping safe for young kids and beginners?
Absolutely. Scalloping is often described as an underwater Easter egg hunt and is perfect for all ages and swimming levels. We anchor in the calm, crystal-clear water over the shallow grass flats—usually only 2 to 6 feet deep—making it very safe and easy for the whole family to jump in and participate.
What should we pack for our family scalloping trip?
We recommend bringing plenty of non-spray sunscreen, dry towels, polarized sunglasses, and a cooler packed with your favorite snacks and drinks to enjoy on the boat between dives.
How many scallops are we allowed to catch and keep?
Florida wildlife regulations have a specific daily limit to keep the local ecosystem healthy. It is generally two gallons of whole scallops per person, or a maximum of 10 gallons per boat. Captain Larry will keep track of the haul throughout the day to make sure your group stays perfectly within the legal limits while getting plenty for dinner.
